By default the taskbar to display the caption and the icon of the current application (in the form of buttons). With these trick you can remove the caption and just show its icon. With that way, you still have enough space if at the same time you run many applications.
1. Run the registry editor, how to click the Start button - Run. Type regedit and press OK.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics 3. In the right panel look for string values
MinWidth and change the value to -255. If the string value does not already exist, you must make the right clicking and select New - String Value.
4. Close the registry.
If it doesn't work, you need to reboot the PC.
